23. eropping Intensity  represents the iotal cropped  area in terms of totar
                           cuitivated  area muitiplied  by 100, i.e.

                                    Cropping Intensily  =                         x 100
                                                           TotalCultivated  Area
                           It indicates the extent to which the cultivated  area was used for intensive
                           cropping.

                       24. Ctlltivated Area is that farm area which was sown at least once durrng
                           the census year i.e. 2A09-2010  or a year before.  It is the sum of area Net
                           Sown and Current  Fallow.


                      25. eulturable Waste is that uncultivated  farm area which is otherwise  fit for
                           cultivation  but was not cropped during the census year or in the year
                           before due to presence cf any. of tne constraints likewater logging, non-
                           availabiiity  of irrigation water, salinity, un levelling of land, manpower ano I
                          or funcjs shoriage,  etc.

                      26" Current Fallcw means that cuitivated fai-m area which was not sown
                          durrng the census year for the puipose  of regaining fertility and / or any
                          other specific objective / reason but wbs cropped  at ieast once during the
                          preceding  year i.e. 2008-09.


                      27. Eeonornic  Aetivity: The data on the type of econornic activlty are basecj
                          on the coneept of "usual"  activity using 12-months period  as the reference
                          pericd  in contrast to labour force concept of "currenf'  activity in which a
                          short time reference of one week or iess is generaily  used. Usually, it
                          lnvolves the activity that generates  income either in cash or kind.

                      28. Eecnomically  A-ctlve Persons are those pe:"sons of either sex of 10
                          yeais  or above in age vvho, during the r-eference period, participated  in the
                          prcducticn of eccnoinie  goccis  or sei-viees.


                      29. Eeonosnieally !naetive Perssns are these  pei-sons  cf the household who
                          co nct perform any wcrk fcr profit or family gain in eash or in kind.
                          House,"vives  anc other i'nembers of ihe householcJ who arc mainly
                          engaged in household duties in their own nome, students attending any
                          regliler  eciueaticnal  institution and other peisons  not economicaii'r  ictive
                          are generally  inciuded  in this category.
