10. Area Taken on Lease / Rentmeans the rented-in area for which a pre-
decided fixed rent in cash or kind is paid by the tenant to the owner of the
alea.
11. Area under Fruit Trees Nursery is the farm area on which fruit trees
nurseries have been grown for any purpose.
12. Banjar Jadeed means that uncultivated area which was not sown /
cultivated for the last two to four years.
13. Banjar Qadeem means that uncultivated area which was not sown /
cultivated for beyond the last four years-
14. Gasual Labour means the labour employed occasionally on daily wage
basis for a specific agriculturalwork.
15. Cattle is the collective name given to bovine animals.
16. Census Day refers to the day of enumeration of a household'
17. Census Yeatwas the actual calendar year 2010. However, data were
collected for cropping seasons Kharif 2009 and Rabi 2009-10. In terms of
the Agricultural yearit begins in April 2009 and ends on 31"1March 2010'
18. Complete Kacha House means a residential place, walls of which are
made up of mud or unbaked bricks bonded with mud.
't9. Gomplete Pakka House means a residential place, walls of which are
made up of baked bricks / stones / concrete bonded with mud or cement.
20. Crop Area Covered with Plant Protection Measures means the area of
a ciop on which plant protection chemicals insecticides / pesticides i
fungicides / rodenticides etc. were applied / sprayed inespective of the
nrtib"t of applications/ sprays made during the census year. lt does not
include aerialspray and seed treatment.
2.1. Crop Area lrrigated means area of a crop actually irrigated at least once
by artificial mean(s) during the census year. lt also includes one or more
irrigations given as part of land preparation before sowing of the crop'
32. Crop Seasons define the cropping pattern in Pal<istan' The cropping
pattern of the country is bifurcated as Kharif and Rabi and all types of
crops are sown in these two seasons. Detail of both seasons is:
a. Kharif crGps are sown in the summer from April to June and
harvested in late suminer or early winter dui"ing October to
December. The important Kharif crops are cotton, rice, sugarcane,
ffiaize, jcwar, Bajra and K-harif vegetables
b. Rahi erops aie sown in the winter from Ceicber tc December and
harvesied in late vrinter or early sumnRer frorn Aprii to May- The
impcrtant R.abi crops ar.e rrvheat, grern, bai"ley, rapeseed, mustarci
anei Rabi'regetables.
