CENSUS METHODOLOGY

In accordance with the previous practice and the recommendation of Advisory
Committee, Provincial Revenue tiepartments were entrusted to carry out the
enumeration task. ln settled areas, the Patwaris / Tapedars .oj tfe .Provincial
Revenue Departments were designated as census enumerators, while the Kanungos
/ Supervising Tapedars were engaged as their immediate supervisors' The
Kanungos / Supervising Tapedars wer6 also made responsible for the enumeratibn
of National Certainty H'oldings (NCHs) located outside the sample Mouzas of their
Lspective jurisdictions. tn nig urban areas like Peshawar, lslamabad, Rawalpindi,
Cujranwata, Sialkot, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, .Multan, Bahawalpur, Sukkur,
i'leirO"O,'Xaracni, Quetta and Muzaffarabad, the field staffs of the Federal Bureau
of Statistics were employed for enumeration under their own supervisory staff
designated for the purpose. In unsettled areas, however, the revenue staff being
very scanty was substantially supported by theField Assistants from Agriculture
'Extension Department, Stock Assistants / Veterinary Assistants from Livesto.ck &
Dairy Development Department and School Teacheis from Education Departrient
for the field operation. The enumerators and supervisors were normally deputed to

work within their respectiue jurisdi.ctions, unless otherwise compelled by the local
circumstances.

At Tehsil/ Taluka level, concerned Deputy District Officers(Reve_n_ue) [DDos (R)] /
Assistant Commissioners were designated as Tehsil Census Officers and made
responsiOte for the census operatiolns to be carried out within their respective

Before the start of the census field operation, a meeting was arranged at every
