through direct interview with head of
selected household or in case of his
absence with very close associate of
the head of selected household.
During the course of listing and
enumeration, each enumerator was
required to fill-in and mail a
addressed weekly progress rePort
card to the census headquarter
stating the progress of work and
problems, if any, faced by him. After
completion of all the work in assigned
mouza(s), the enumerator was
required to put all the documents back
in the census kit bag(s) and return the
same to the CMT in the sub-division.
The documents were then checked
for completeness and despatched to
the ACO headquarter by the CMT.
In the meanwhile the suPer-
visors conducted the enumeration of
National Certainty Holdings (NCHs) in
the non-selected mouza(s) and also
supervised the progress of work of
enumerator(s) within their respective
jurisdictions.
PROCESSING AND TABULATION
The census data were
processed on a main frame comPuter
installed at the Computer Centre,
Federal Bureau of Statistics, Lahore.
The processing and tabulation was
carried out through a number of steps
devised in a logical scheme of work. A
brief explanation of each step is as
under:
(1) Document Gontrol
First of all, a Control Section was
established in the office to collect
and receive documents from the
field, check them for complete
inventory, keep in . systematic
Pre- order and safe custody and
issue them for various data
processing operations. For this
purpose, it was first ensured that
documents from all the selected
mouzas, villages and urban
blocks were received, In this
connection the forms were
actually counted and matched
with the number recorded on the
concerned sample selection
forms and listing sheets (Form-1
of each selected mouza / village
I block). All cases of over and
under reporting were thoroughlY
investigated and reconciled. The
completed documents of each
mouza / village / block were
placed in separate and proPerlY
labelled kit bags showing the
identification of area and lhe
inventory of the documents
contained therein. The kit bags,
in turn, were placed in shelves
on which tehsil / taluka codes
were systematically marked.
This arrangement facilitated the
easy retrieval of documents.
The Control Section issued
documents for coding, editing,
data entry and other operations
invoived in data processing and
kept a meticulous record of the
movement of all ce!'lsus
