P. 7
PREFACE
This report is the third of the main reports containing
results of the 1990 Census of Agriculture. It has four main
sections. The first section contains a brief description of the
census methodology; scope, quality of data and its limitations. The
second section includes definitions and explanations of various
terms used in the census while third section presents the main
findings. The fourth section provides statistical tables. Ninety
tables have been prepared for each district. The province and
division tables have also been made available by totaling up
district figures. Except for a few new items, the tables are in
line with the 1972 and 1980 Censuses to facilitate comparability.
The 1990 census being the fourth, the experience of the first
three censuses was utilized to improve all aspects .of the census.
The sample design and the size was further improved. Mc.re attention
was paid to the training of different categories of staff entrusted
with census work. Supervision of census enumeration was augmented
by associating supervisory staff of other agencies working in the .
related fields in addition to those of the Census Organization .
Optimum use of the computer was made to ward off the possibility
of arithmetic errors.
The successful and timely completion of the census enumeration
conducted all over the country and release of the report was made
possible through enormous planning and hard ~ark put ih by the
staff in implementation of the plans. It is indeed a matter of
great pride for the whole organization and I am personally thankful
to the staff, who worked with me, for their honest work and
devotion to duty. Thanks are due to the provincial Boards of
Rev~nue and their field staff for their cooperation in this
national task. Thanks are also due to the Federal Bureau of
Statistics who deputed their staff and officers for census
enumeration and supervision. Speciial thanks are due to the Data
Processing Centre of Federal Bureau of Statistics who worked hard
and despite being newly established made it possible to complete
the gigantic task of data processing within reasonable time.
