PREFACE

This report is the fifth in the series of the final reports containing the results of the Census
of Agriculture held in 1960. H has three main sections viz., Introduction, Definitions and
Statistical Tables. The first section contains a brief description of the Census methodology
· and procedures along with a brief analysis of some important points. The second section
deals with definitions and explanations of important terms used in the Census and the third is
the main tabular report which contains 7,131 statistical tables for all the tehsils/talukas of West
Pakistan, separately, excluding those of Quetta, Kalat and Karachi Divisions.

The tabular presentation has two features. ·Firstly, it brings out various relationships bet-
ween important factors of agriculture and secondly, it admits of easy reference. Tables have
been made self-explanatory by the addition of percentages and averages.

Fact finding is recognized as a very difficult task. In a Census this task has to be done not
only on a massive scale but also the mass of facts that are assembled have to.b<! presented in
the form of easy tables. That makes the task still more difficult.

Being pion~ers in the field we had to contend with unusual problems and difficulties. It
is gratifying that the Census staff did not spare any pains in grappling with the gigantic task
of which the successful termination within the time schedule is a matter of pride for the whole
Organization.
